Flying Over Missouri

As part of the program's open, the producer wanted to "fly over" the different parts of Missouri.  So he had a local music company create a soundtrack for us to the tune of "This Land is Your Land."  Below is a small sample of the video with the music.  The music company is now working on adding local sounds to the track that we hope to have in the final version of the show.  What you are about to see is called a rough cut.

Fun Fact

This post will be a fun fact about Missouri...  Did you know that in Jefferson City, the current capitol building is the third one in that city?   Below is a photo of the second capitol building before it was destroyed by a lightning strike that hit its dome in 1911.

Here is an image of what was left of the building after the fire.  The entire inside of the structure was completely destroyed by the fire.

It is amazing what you can find out when you dig into your past.

Bring Twain to Life

Throughout our program, the show will have a host to take the viewers on this historic journey. Mark Twain is an icon of Missouri and acts as our host.  Since Mr. Twain is no longer with us, the KMOS production team was able to secure Missouri native actor Holmes Osborne to play the part of Mark Twain.  Holmes has had quite a career in Hollywood and was very gracious in his time for this project. Below is a promotional image designed by one of our team of Holmes in costume as Mark Twain. I think he looks pretty spot on.

Here is a link to his IMDB page if you want to explore his career.

The Life of an Editor

 Welcome explorers!

On this blog, we will take you on a journey as the production team at Ozarks Public Television (KOZK / KOZJ) in Springfield, MO, and our partners at KMOS in Warrensburg, Mo, work to create the two-hour documentary about the first 200 years of the state of Missouri.  This project is two years in the making and will premiere in a state-wide broadcast on all the Missouri PBS stations on August 12th.  (The time will be determined soon.)  While it is hard to cover 200 years of history in two hours we try to hit the highlights of Missouri's vast and great history.  Currently, the program is in the editing process.  I am the main editor of this project.  Editing a program for television consists of putting the proper visual elements and narration together in a way that is engaging for the viewer.  This can mean many things from creating the pacing or timing the show.  Picking the correct images to go along with the narration to selecting the music to give an emotional feel to the program.
